Readers want a quality, reading experience. Typographical errors, point-of-view issues, plot holes, and incorrect word usage can be a huge distraction to the reader and can lead to a bad review. Whether you need someone to proof your final draft or really dig in, we can help you whip your manuscript into shape.
SUBSTANTIVE EDITING
Prepare yourself for an intense round of editing. Substantive editing (a.k.a. developmental, structural, or comprehensive editing) is quite different from copyediting. We’ll dive deep into your manuscript and address any necessary restructuring, trim ineffective scenes, cut repetitive words or ideas, bring point-of-view issues to your attention, and spot plot holes. If sentences need to be reworded, we’ll let you know. Incorrect word use? We’ll suggest a few. Working together with you, we’ll whip your manuscript into shape.
COPYEDITING
Ready to clean up your manuscript? Unlike substantive editing, copyediting focuses on polishing your novel. Our editors will pay close attention to grammar, spelling, punctuation, proper word use, and style. We’ll also address any awkward wording and correct typographical errors. Making sure your manuscript is ready for the next step in your publishing journey is our priority.
THINGS TO KNOW
Manuscript must be submitted as a Word document (.doc or .docx) as our editors use Microsoft Word.
Our editors use the Review tool in Microsoft Word to edit manuscripts. You will be able to view all edits and determine whether you want to Accept or Reject changes. Comments left throughout will include feedback and suggestions on how you can improve your novel.
Most editing projects can be completed within thirty days from the date of submission. But depending on our schedule, the type of editing, the length of the novel, and how much work needs to be done, we may need a little more time. If you have a firm deadline, contact us before you get started. We’ll work with you.
We are a tad picky on the manuscripts we will edit. Why? Well, because it’s fun to edit stories that we actually like. Some genre’s are just not for us. See our list of genre’s we absolutely love to read. If you want to know if we will make an exception for your novel, send us an email.
Our team of editors have worked with 48fourteen, a publishing company with an intense and rigorous editing process. Any of their authors will tell you so! Their standards are high, and now BTA is here to offer you the same to help you take your manuscript to the next level. In addition to ensuring your novel is well-written and adheres to the rules of grammar, our editors will challenge you to bring your characters to life, enliven your story, and put forth the best version of your book readers can thoroughly enjoy.
